Half a Day in San Francisco

On our epic Asian adventure 2012 we had a quick stop over in San Francisco.  Half a day quick.  With Ewan being in the San Fran only briefly as a teen and myself never seeing the city before, we ventured from our airport hotel down to the tourist area.

Being that we were coming to California from Canada, as well as anticipating hot weather all throughout Asia, we packed light: I had a sweater, scarf and a pair of jeans as my ‘warm’ clothes (i.e. airplane travel clothes…those planes get cold!) and all Ewan had was a thin plaid button up shirt! The high on our layover? 13 degrees Celsius!!  Despite the cold we soldiered on, hoping our touring all over would help warm us up.

Our minimum plan was to check out Fisherman’s Wharf and see the Golden Gate bridge from afar.

Of course we went had to check out the stinky sea lions and Pier 39…

Even the sea lions were cold

And from there we had enough gumption (and daylight) to trek up the steep Hyde Street to check out the ridiculously crooked Lombard Street.

Lombard Street
We also hoofed down to the beach to catch a glimpse of the Golden Gate Bridge (it was pretty foggy that day) and Alcatraz.

San Francisco seems like a really great city – there is so much more to explore and see that we didn’t have the time for… I am just wondering what time of year we have to go if August is so chilly!!
